Artist's Comments

This took forever, largely because I continually redid parts as I figured out new things and tried different techniques. But I don't think i've ever enjoyed doing any kind of art as much as i'm enjoying digital painting right now...even more than playing guitar.

Photoshop CS3
Wacom

Thank you to imaliea for this grass brush.

Full view please

Edit - Thank you so much for the DD!

Edit 4/27/09 - Well, I finally redid the leaves here because for some reason I had the patience. Not a huge difference but had to be done eventually.

Mystic forest vs moody graveyard - Regrowth by ~ehaft captures so many different and colliding emotions that it's hard to distinguish a solid lead, but the overall warmth of this painting is fascinating. (Suggested by *Dhuaine and Featured by ^JunkbyJen)

Wow bro, you're becoming an overnight pro.

It's awesome to see how your dedication to getting this down is paying off. This looks like a seasoned veteran piece.

Great job.

Oh and for the guitar part, I've played guitar for 31 years now and up till 8 years ago when I got photoshop deluxe or something like that I used to teach and practice at least 6-8 hours a day for years...and now I barely touch it lol. So when I do graphics its the feeling I had kinda with guitar...you know the whole sad, happy, angry feeling that you could take out on guitar. I have my les paul and Dean next to my half stack right next to me right now. I guess I was burnt out on it...playing since I was 7 you that happens. I'll play more soon, but I just wanted to let you know, that I know the feeling when it comes to gfx vs instruments.

Mmm a les paul, I have a stratocaster...Mexican made, so I envy you lol. Been playing for about 10 years, off and on, but not much at all lately...I think I burned out on it as well.

Thank you for the praise, hopefully I can continue to impress :), I have an idea for my next one and I might start on it this weekend.

I must say your attention to lighting and shadows within this piece is amazing. The beams fading past each tombstone add alot of realism. I like the way you composed this piece, its almost, to me at least, symbolizing the transition from death (represented by the tombstones) onto heaven (represented by the light). Its really deep, I like it.

Creativity is a gift so great that god only trusted it to the insane.
